Regolamento Contest fotografico_LaTuaEuropa_EUFACTOR

The volume of data generated by people and machines is increasing exponentially and it is becoming a key driver for innovation by businesses and public authorities (e.g. the creation of smart cities).

Recently the European Parliament adopted its negotiating position on a legislative proposal that aims to contribute to the development of new digital services, in particular in the field of artificial intelligence.

The Data Act sets out EU rules on the sharing of data generated by the use of related products or related services (e.g., ‘Internet of Things’ and industrial machinery) in order to ensure fairness of data sharing contracts.

MEPs approved measures to allow users to access the data they generate. According to the European Commission, 80% of industrial data is never used. In addition, it is intended to ensure that contractual arrangements are at the heart of business-to-business relations.

Under the proposal, companies will be able to decide what data can be shared, while the manufacturer can choose not to make certain data available “by choice”.

The text defines how public bodies will be able to access and use data held by the private sector, which is necessary in exceptional or emergency circumstances such as floods and fires.

In addition, MEPs strengthened provisions to protect trade secrets, to prevent greater access to data from being used by competitors to modify services or devices, as well as setting stricter conditions for data requests by companies to public administrations.

Finally, data legislation will facilitate the switching of cloud and other data processing services from one provider to another and introduce safeguards against illegal international data transfer by cloud services.

At the beginning of the ‘900, close to the historic center of Modena, stood the AMCM sector, home of the Municipal Electricity Companies (AEM) that managed the tram power network, to facilitate the extension to serve the new districts that would soon become part of the city perimeter.

The re-functionalization of the former AEM, which became the headquarters of the Open Laboratory of Modena, took place using the European resources of Axis 6 (sustainable, intelligent and attractive cities) that allowed to redevelop the spaces, set up and start the management of the Open Laboratory and support its integrated promotion at national and European level.

The first concrete projects for the regeneration of this building of industrial archeology are therefore born thanks to the European Regional Development Fund 2014-2020, which the Emilia-Romagna Region has also used to return to citizens, places destined to become centers of knowledge exchange for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth.

The Open Laboratory is today a hub of research, innovation and experimentation for culture, entertainment, and creativity, as well as a meeting point and a workspace between professionals, start-ups and institutions, open to citizens, and a center of activities, events, workshops.

“Dare” in English means to take risks: specifically, the challenge was to renew the Darsena District of Ravenna, through an open and participatory digital transformation process, making it more attractive, greener, and safer.

DARE is a project funded by the European Community, focused on a process of Urban Regeneration that leverages the alliance between the public, private, non-profit sectors, and citizens. The Darsena of Ravenna, with its history, has become an open-air laboratory of regeneration and digital transition. The aim of the project, in fact, was the dissemination of a widespread digital culture to sensitize citizens of the changes in cities and push them to interact.

In 2019 the DARE project – “Digital Environment for Collaborative Alliances to Regenerate Urban Ecosystem in middle-sized cities” – was funded under the IV call of the UIA – Urban Innovative Actions program. Since then, many activities have been undertaken from the organization of webinars to digitalization courses aimed at citizens, from public calls to photo contests, up to on-site initiatives. The journey ended in recent days with a series of meetings and debates.
