Podcast: Divertor Tokamak Test (DTT), an important Italian initiative in the field of nuclear fusion

The Divertor Tokamak Test (DTT) is a major Italian initiative in the field of nuclear fusion.

This project involves the National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development (ENEA), ENI and the CREATE consortium. The funding allocated to the project concerns the construction of the DTT plant, which will be located in the Frascati Science Citadel.

The research group has been working on the development of fusion energy for many years. During these years, one of the goals has been to build a plant capable of extracting fusion power and generating electricity. Among other challenges is to create an energy source that does not produce greenhouse gases, thus contributing to the decarbonisation of our society.

Italy, Europe, and researchers around the world have set new challenges with regard to fusion energy, which can have a decisive impact on society and the environment. It is expected that experiments can begin by the end of this decade and that fusion energy can make a contribution to the energy transition.

“EU with YOU” is the Eu Factor Next podcast realised by Raduni, the Association of Italian University Radio Operators, to tell citizens at first hand how European funding is spent. In each episode the podcast will tell the story of a project funded by the European Union and its Cohesion Policy on the national territory.
